About This Venue
J.T. Gray moved the Station Inn to its current spot in 1981 and ran it for four decades. Bill Monroe, Jimmy Martin, and Bobby Osborne would drop in unannounced after Opry Friday night sets. Capacity is about 175. The Country Music Hall of Fame mounted an exhibit dedicated to the venue's history. Gray was inducted into the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame in 2020; he died in March 2021 at 75.
The exterior is unchanged. The Gulch is glass towers and hotel lobbies now; the Station Inn is the same cinder-block bar it always was. The venue rewards showing up without much of a plan.
