Jackson has spent a career as a picker, singer, and producer in the bluegrass and country worlds, with a long list of records to his name. Cordle is a songwriter whose material has been cut widely and a hard-edged bluegrass singer in his own right. Val Storey supplies the high harmony. New Monday is the vehicle, and the format is straightforward: acoustic instruments, tight vocal stacks, songs chosen by people who know the catalog cold. The Station Inn is where this music is supposed to happen and everyone involved knows it. Low ceiling, mismatched tables, a stage barely raised off the floor. Expect banter between songs that is funnier than it needs to be and playing that is better than the room’s appearance suggests. Monday nights here are for people who prefer their bluegrass unattended by tourists.
