Wednesday 13 has spent his whole career in a lineage that runs from the Misfits through shock rock into something more theatrical — B-movie imagery, corpse paint, songs built around choruses you can shout with a plastic cup in your hand. The joke and the sincerity are the same thing here, which is why it works. The riffs are better than the costume suggests. The timing is the pick. Halloween week in Nashville produces a lot of half-hearted themed shows, and this is the rare one where the theme is simply the artist’s normal Tuesday. Expect a fair number of people in the crowd dressed up and no one treating it as unusual. The Basement East is dark and low, which does most of the production design for free.
