The Read

The Blue Room holds a few hundred people and was built as a recording space first, a club second — the room is wired to capture what happens in it, and everything about the acoustics reflects that. It means small shows there sound closer to a record than to a bar. It also means the audience behaves a little differently; people actually listen. Tyler Ballgame is the kind of booking this room does well: not yet a name that sells itself, put in front of a crowd that came partly for the venue. Seven o’clock start, done early, a good option if you want live music without committing your whole evening. Go in without expectations and let the room do the arguing.

Jack White opened the Nashville Third Man location in March 2009. The Blue Room has a 1953 Scully lathe — the only live music venue in the world with direct-to-acetate recording capability.
