The 5 Spot’s eighties night is a known quantity: no live bill to evaluate, no set to sit through politely, just a floor and a run of songs everyone was issued at birth. It draws a wide crowd — neighborhood regulars, people who have been coming for a decade, and whoever is in town visiting family and needed to leave the house. Black Friday is the night the city refills with people who moved away. That makes this a reunion by accident, which is more fun than one that was planned. Nine o’clock, cheap drinks, a dance floor that gets crowded early. Low commitment, high return, and no risk of a disappointing headliner.
