The Read

Powerplant work in the twitchy end of synth-damaged punk: short songs, cheap-sounding keyboards used as weapons, everything played faster than it needs to be. Participation Trophy and Sinkers fill out a bill that promises no ballads and no encore. This is a format built for volume and brevity — three sets, done by midnight, nobody overstaying. The Basement is small, low, and hot, which is the correct environment for this. Nine on a Tuesday during a holiday week means the crowd will be locals who did not travel, which usually makes for a better room than a full one. If the rest of the week is family obligations, this is the release valve scheduled just before them.

The Room

The Basement

1604 8th Ave S

The smaller, original Basement — a low-ceiling room under what used to be Grimey's on 8th Avenue, where songwriter, roots, and rock bills feel thirty feet from the stage.
