New Faces Night does not adjust for the season, which by the third week of December is a genuine relief. Several writers, short sets, new material, no holiday obligation. The bar for a room like this is low in cost and high in attention — you are being asked to actually listen, which is more than most December bookings require. The Basement is underground, tight, and dark enough that nobody performs for the phones. Seven o'clock, out by ten. Go with a friend who has opinions and argue about which of the four writers is going to be playing a bigger room in three years.
