Our pick
MOTO, Liquids, The Sleeveens, Wesley & The Boys, and Part Time Filth
Wednesday, September 23, 2026 · 7:00 PM · The Basement, 8th Ave South
The Read
MOTO — Masters of the Obvious — are a Chicago institution built entirely on brevity: hooks, jokes, and songs that end before they can outstay anything. Liquids and Part Time Filth come from the same fast, lo-fi lineage. The Sleeveens play the melodic, Irish-inflected end of punk. Wesley & The Boys round it out. Nobody on this bill is going to play for forty minutes. The Basement is literally that — a low room under a building on 8th, with a small stage and a bar along the side. Five bands starting at seven means constant turnover and no dead air. Come early or you will miss two of them. Shows like this are the reason the room exists, and they do not get advertised much beyond the people who already know.

The Basement

The smaller, original Basement — a low-ceiling room under what used to be Grimey's on 8th Avenue, where songwriter, roots, and rock bills feel thirty feet from the stage.
