The Read

The lineage here is American Primitive — fingerstyle guitar as landscape rather than accompaniment — and Pedigo works it with a dry, West Texas flatness that keeps the music from tipping into prettiness. There are no vocals to hold onto. The pieces build slowly and reward attention rather than demand it, which makes the room a genuine variable. The Blue Room is one of the few Nashville venues where an entire audience will actually stay quiet for a solo instrumental set. It is small, well-treated, and the crowd knows the deal. Expect long tunings between pieces, expect dry between-song talk, expect the last ten minutes to be better than the first ten because by then everyone has adjusted to the pace.

Jack White opened the Nashville Third Man location in March 2009. The Blue Room has a 1953 Scully lathe — the only live music venue in the world with direct-to-acetate recording capability.
