Guthrie Trapp learned his trade in the Don Kelley band at Robert’s — the honky-tonk apprenticeship that has produced a startling number of Nashville’s great Telecaster players — and later spent years on the road with Jerry Douglas. What he does with a trio is harder to categorize: country phrasing tangled up with blues, jazz time, and the occasional detour that has no business working. This one starts at five, which makes it a rare thing — serious playing before dinner. The 5 Spot is a Five Points neighborhood bar, no pretense, cheap drinks, regulars at the rail. Come for the guitar, stay because a Wednesday that starts this early leaves the rest of the night open.
