The Tiger Beats run the standing blues night, and the appeal is entirely in the repetition. Same room, same start time, same rough shape to the set — shuffles, slow ones, space for whoever turns up wanting to sit in. Bands that play the same night every week get good in a way that touring bands do not, because they are playing for the same people and cannot coast on novelty. East Nashville on a Monday is not a busy evening, which is precisely why this works. Six o’clock start, cheap drinks, a floor that fills with dancers rather than spectators. Nothing about it needs to be planned or posted about. Show up, stay an hour, decide later whether you are making a night of it.
