Ben Chapman's Peach Jam

The Read

Peach Jam is built on the format Nashville does better than anywhere else: a host, a house band, and a rotating stream of players who happen to be in town and willing. Chapman works the Southern-rock and soul end of things, which gives the night a groove foundation loose enough to absorb whoever shows up. The set list is a suggestion. The Basement East has the room and the sound system to keep a night like this from turning into a mess. Expect long songs, extended solos, and at least one guest who reframes the whole evening. The trade-off with any jam is unevenness; the payoff is that nobody in the building, including the band, knows exactly what happens next.
