He was performing as 'Randy Ray' — doing dawn-to-2am kitchen shifts, playing occasional sets. Martha Sharp, Warner Bros. senior VP, came to the Palace to hear him. Travis was introduced on the Opry stage by Little Jimmy Dickens and inducted as a member on December 20, 1986. He was still working here when it happened.
The venue is country bar culture outside the Broadway corridor: line dancing, dinner, and sets built for a longer evening. Its role in the Opryland ecosystem hasn't changed much since it opened.
