The Read
Some nights the calendar simply does not offer much, and that is when a residency earns its keep. The Time Jumpers play fiddle-driven western swing with a lineup drawn from Nashville’s session ranks, and the whole enterprise runs on the pleasure of watching people who play for a living choose to play for fun. Twin fiddles, brushed drums, solos handed down the line. The repertoire is old — Bob Wills territory, standards, a few things that predate almost everyone in the room — and it moves. 3rd & Lindsley is seated and sounds good, so this works as dinner and a show without either half feeling like an obligation. Show up on a night with nothing else happening and you will not feel like you settled.
