The Read
The Time Jumpers play Texas swing and western standards the way the material was designed to be played — as an ensemble exercise where the arrangement is the whole point and the solos are handed around like a conversation. The band grew out of session musicians filling an empty night, and the show has kept that unhurried, slightly informal quality even after it became a fixture. Nobody up there is auditioning. The lineup shifts depending on who is off the road, so no two nights are identical, and the between-song banter is a large part of the appeal. Third & Lindsley gives them tables and sightlines, which matters for music that rewards watching hands. It is the Monday before Halloween, which will change nothing about this show. That is also the appeal.
