The Read
The band began as a musicians’ hang — session players with nothing booked on a Monday deciding to play western swing for fun — and it never entirely stopped being that. The repertoire is swing, standards, and the fiddle-and-steel end of country. The soloing is casual in demeanor and absurd in execution, because the players are used to doing this on other people’s records for money. 3rd & Lindsley is seated, sightlines are decent, and the sound is handled by people who know the band. Expect banter, expect a guest or two, expect the tempo to stay comfortable. It is not a young room. It is one of the few standing Nashville nights where the point is the playing and everyone in attendance knows it.
