Our pick
The Pat Coil Sextet w/ Eric Wurzelbacher, Barry Green, Andrew Golden, Craig Akin & Ryan Brasley
Saturday, September 5, 2026 · 8:00 PM · Rudy's Jazz Room, The Gulch
The Read
A sextet is the size where jazz stops being conversation and starts being architecture. There are enough horns to voice real chords, and enough bodies that somebody has to have written something down. Pat Coil is a pianist and arranger with deep session credentials in this town, and a band this size under his name implies charts rather than a blowing session. Rudy’s is the room for it: small, low-lit, a properly maintained piano, an audience that mostly shuts up. Eight o’clock on a Saturday is the prime slot, so buy ahead or arrive early. If you have been meaning to figure out whether Nashville has a jazz scene, this is a more honest answer than any listicle.
The Room
Rudy's Jazz Room
809 Gleaves St
The closest thing Nashville has to a dedicated jazz club — table seating, close listening, and a Gulch location that feels apart from the Gulch.
