The Read
The Bristol group built its following on unaccompanied sea shanties and folk harmony, and got swept into a much larger audience when the shanty boom hit social media a few years back. What holds up is the arranging. Four or five voices, no rhythm section to hide behind, songs constructed to be sung by people who are tired and working. Brooklyn Bowl is a big loud room for music this bare, which is exactly the tension worth showing up for. The crowd does a lot of the work here — that is the point of the form. Expect call-and-response, expect it to get louder than the PA, expect a Sunday night that ends with your voice shot.

Henrietta RedJulia Sullivan's Food & Wine Best New Chef 2018, James Beard nominee. The raw oyster program is the reason to start at the bar. The smoked mackerel toast and wood-roasted fish are worth knowing about. A polished room that isn't stiff.
