The Read

The dual-vocal thing was the band’s actual innovation — Adam Lazzara’s lead line and a second voice underneath it saying something adjacent and angrier. It made emo arrangements feel like arguments rather than confessions. Twenty-plus years on, the catalog has survived better than most of the scene it came from, largely because the hooks were built properly. The Pinnacle is a newer, larger room, and this crowd will fill it with people who bought these records in high school. Expect the mic-swinging, expect the choruses to be handled almost entirely by the audience, expect at least one song that hits harder now than it did then. Emo aged into nostalgia; the good bands aged into craft.

Po'boy bread flown in from New Orleans. The chicken and andouille gumbo is the anchor; the debris fries are worth knowing about. This is the real Cajun thing.
