The duo works in a lean strain of post-punk — trebly guitar, insistent bass, drum machines and live drums used interchangeably, vocals delivered high and clipped over the top. Their recordings famously prioritize live-in-the-space capture over studio gloss, which means the songs already sound like something happening in front of you. Live, that translates almost directly. Drkmttr is a small all-ages DIY room, and this is exactly the kind of booking that justifies its existence: a band with real critical standing playing to a hundred-odd people who are standing on concrete. Seven o’clock start on a Wednesday, no barricade, no green room worth mentioning. This is the version of a show most cities have stopped being able to offer.
