The Read

Social Distortion started in Orange County punk and drifted toward rockabilly and country without ever softening — pompadours, tattoos, Johnny Cash covers, and choruses built for a room full of people shouting at once. The songs are about bad decisions and their bills, and Ness has never dressed that up as anything more romantic than it is. The Pinnacle is one of the bigger new rooms in town, which puts a band with bar-band DNA in front of a lot more people than the material was written for. It usually still works, because the material is simple in the way that scales. A Monday, a school-night start time, and a crowd that has been showing up to this band since some of them had jobs they hated.
