The Read

Steve Jones, Paul Cook, and Glen Matlock are the players who made the records sound the way they do: Jones’s stacked guitars, Cook’s straight-ahead drumming, Matlock’s melodic bass and considerable songwriting hand in the early material. Frank Carter, of Gallows and the Rattlesnakes, takes the front. He is a genuinely combustible performer rather than a tribute-act impersonator, which is the only version of this that makes sense. Marathon Music Works is a converted industrial space with a big open floor, appropriate for a set that will run short and fast. The catalog is not deep — one album and change — so expect roughly seventy minutes of material everyone knows. The question is whether it lands as a living band or a curated artifact. Carter is the variable, and he is a good one.

A large, open, industrial room in Marathon Village for the tours that need more floor than a club and less ceremony than an arena.
