The Read
Opry Country Christmas takes the standard multi-artist Opry format and points it at the holiday songbook: carols, the country Christmas canon, a few originals, and the occasional oddity that only survives because someone in the cast insists on it. Short sets and quick turnover keep it from becoming a slog, which is the failure mode of nearly every holiday concert. The circle of Ryman oak is still center stage, and the staging leans into decoration without much apology. The Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend puts it right at the seam between the two holidays, when the city is still full of visitors. Sentimental by design; the format is what keeps it moving.
