The Read

Release shows are strange little ceremonies — the songs are new to everyone in the room except the people who have already lived with them for a year. There is no press cycle to go on here, which is normal for a Springwater booking and is not a strike against it. What you do know is that somebody finished a record and chose to celebrate it in a bar rather than a listening room. That choice says something. Springwater has a reputation as the oldest continuously operating bar in Nashville and it looks the part: cash, cheap beer, a stage barely raised off the floor, decades of accumulated grime treated as decor. Ten dollars is the entire risk. If the record is good you heard it first, and if it is not you have spent less than one cocktail downtown.

Built in 1896 as the barroom for the Tennessee Centennial Exposition — the same fair that built the Parthenon. The oldest continuously operating bar in Tennessee.
