The Read

Judah and the Lion built their sound on an unlikely combination — banjo and mandolin welded to programmed drums and arena-sized choruses — and it worked because they committed to the collision rather than splitting the difference. The live show has always been the strongest version of the band: relentlessly physical, built around getting a whole floor moving at once. The Pinnacle is a large, recent addition to the city’s room inventory, and a hometown band filling it is a good use of the space. Expect a crowd with history here, people who saw them in clubs a decade ago standing next to people who found them last year. Friday night, big room, a band that has never once played a show at half effort.
