Journey’s peak run produced some of the most durable arena rock ever written — songs engineered for exactly this kind of building, with Neal Schon’s guitar and Jonathan Cain’s piano figures doing the structural work. The band has weathered lineup arguments and public grievances that would have finished most groups. The songs kept selling tickets anyway, which was always the trump card. The “An Evening With” format means a longer set and deeper cuts than a package tour allows, and that is the actual argument for going. Expect the ballads handled carefully and the guitar playing to be better than the reputation suggests. Everyone will sing the same song at the end. Resistance is not a workable strategy here.
