Jack Pearson

The Read

Pearson is one of those Nashville musicians whose reputation lives almost entirely among other musicians. He plays slide, he plays fingerstyle, he sings with a warm and unshowy soul phrasing, and he moves between blues, gospel, and jazz without announcing the transitions. There is no theatrical element to any of it. The playing is the show. Third & Lindsley has tables, decent sound, and a crowd that mostly came for the musicianship rather than the occasion. Expect long instrumental passages, a band that can follow him anywhere, and a fair number of local players standing at the back with their arms folded. That last detail is the endorsement.
