The Read

Iron Lung are a two-piece — drums and bass, no guitar — and they use that limitation as the entire aesthetic. The songs are short, abrupt, and deliberately ugly, and the band has run its own label long enough to be a load-bearing part of the underground. Hologram, Human Shield, Yammer Jaw, and Zero Sum fill out a bill that will move fast and end early. Drkmttr is a volunteer-run all-ages space, which is a different social contract than a bar. No alcohol economy driving the booking, no VIP anything, a door price that goes to the bands. Expect the room to be hot and loud, expect sets under twenty-five minutes, expect five bands to be done in the time a single headliner takes elsewhere. This is the actual underground, not a curated version of it.
