The Cowpokes play traditional country the way it was meant to be used — shuffles, waltzes, two-steps, tempos chosen for the floor rather than the stage. Special guests turn up most weeks, sometimes people whose names would sell out a much bigger room. The format has been running long enough in this town to have its own etiquette. Eastside Bowl is a bowling alley with a legitimate venue attached, which sounds like a compromise and is not. The floor is big enough to dance on without apologizing, there is usually a lesson early for people who need one, and nobody cares if you are bad at it. Seven o’clock start on a Tuesday. Free or close to it, most weeks.
