The Read
The band is a sustained bit that has outlasted nearly every scene it mocked: alien warlords, elaborate foam armor, mid-set beheadings, thrash played competently underneath all of it. The commitment is the joke. Forty-odd years in, GWAR is one of the few acts whose live show is genuinely un-streamable, because the whole thing is about being in the splash zone. Brooklyn Bowl on a Sunday, which is an unhinged night for this and therefore correct. Practical advice: do not wear anything you care about, and do not stand up front unless you mean it. Everyone leaves stained and cheerful. Few bands still deliver a night this specific.
