The Read
Whatever side of the debate you land on, Die Hard is a nearly perfect action film — one building, one bad night, a hero who spends most of it bleeding and improvising. It is also, structurally, a movie about a man trying to get to his family's holiday party, which is more than several official Christmas films can claim. The Franklin Theatre's late shows draw a crowd that came to react out loud, which is the correct way to watch this. Midnight on the 26th, when the holiday is technically over and nobody has anywhere to be. Cheap, communal, and considerably more fun than whatever is streaming at home.

Gray's on MainThe Gray's Drug Co. sign has been on Main Street since 1952. The building is from 1876. Michael and Joni Cole restored it in 2013 — original wood floors, tin ceilings, structural timbers. Southern food, live music upstairs on weekends. The right room for a Franklin dinner.
