Dedicated Men of Zion: A Night of Sacred Soul
Sunday, August 30, 2026 · 5:30 PM · Chief's, Downtown
The Read
Sacred soul is the point where the church and the juke joint stop pretending to be different traditions: gospel lyrics delivered with the timing, grit, and call-and-response of sixties southern soul. Dedicated Men of Zion are a North Carolina family group working squarely in that lineage, and the appeal is the blend — voices that have been singing together since long before anyone was recording them. A 5:30 Sunday start on Lower Broadway is an unusual slot for this, and the contrast helps. Expect the leads to trade off, expect the crowd to be talked into participating, and expect it to build rather than peak early. You do not have to be religious for this to work on you.

Eric Church's six-story bar on the corner of 2nd and Broadway — 'Chief' is his nickname. A ticketed concert hall, a Rodney Scott barbecue floor, and a rooftop, stacked inside the old Leslie Warner Building.
