Charlie Parker Birthday Tribute with Don Aliquo
Saturday, August 29, 2026 · 5:30 PM · Rudy's Jazz Room, The Gulch
The Read
Parker’s music is not a nostalgia exercise; it is still the hardest common repertoire in jazz, and the tunes get called at jam sessions specifically to find out who has done the work. Don Aliquo is a Nashville saxophonist with a serious straight-ahead reputation, which is the right kind of person to hand this material to. Expect tempos that are not polite. Rudy’s Jazz Room is a basement club in the Gulch with a small stage, good sound, and a listening policy the staff enforces. A 5:30 start makes this an early set, which means you can hear a bebop tribute and still have a night afterward. Sit close enough to see the fingering — half the pleasure of this music is watching it be difficult.
