The Read
The records are genuinely good — a run from pop-punk into something much darker and more structurally ambitious than the scene it came from, with arrangements that turned dread into shape. The band has also been away under circumstances that many former fans have not set aside, and the shows carry that unresolved weight. Pretending otherwise would be dishonest. What you can say for certain is that this material was built for a big dark room and a crowd that knows every word. The Pinnacle has the scale and the system for it. Expect long, quiet build-ups, expect the loud parts to be genuinely overwhelming, expect an audience relationship with the songs that is more complicated than a typical reunion. Go in with that clear-eyed.
