Wednesday, out of Asheville, writes country-damaged shoegaze — Karly Hartzman’s lyrics are full of specific, unlovely Southern detail buried under lap steel and distortion. Mannequin Pussy come at it from Philadelphia punk, Marisa Dabice swinging between a scream and something almost tender inside the same song. Neither band is interested in being tasteful. Put them together and the night has a real arc rather than a headliner and a warm-up. The Truth crowd skews young and knows the words, which changes what the loud parts feel like. Two bands who have both figured out that volume is a way of being honest, not a way of avoiding it.
