Goose came up through the jam circuit and earned an unusually devoted following by treating improvisation as composition rather than filler. The playing is clean and patient — grooves get established, then dismantled, then reassembled somewhere else entirely twelve minutes later. It is a style that rewards people willing to stay in the room. “An Evening With” means two sets and no opener, which is the point. There is time for the slow build, the segue, the piece that only works because of what came before it. The Truth crowd will include people tracking the setlist in real time and people who wandered in; by the second set the distinction stops mattering.
